Veterinary Guidelines for Establishing Deworming Protocol

Strategic deworming is a practice recommended by the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists (AAVP) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Strategic deworming guidelines for dogs


what is ZOONOSES?

puppies

  • Every 2 weeks until 3 months of age 
  • Once /month from 3 to 6 months of age
  • Four times/year after 6 moths of age

adults

  • Treat regularly considering potential exposure to parasites and pre-patent periods (4 times/year)
  • A continued surveillance of parasite prevalence in your area is recommended

bitches

  • Once prior to mating
  • Once at parturition
  • Once at 2 weeks, then 4 weeks after birth

newly acquired puppies or dogs

  • Immediately, then repeat after 2 weeks, then follow guidelines above

strategic deworming.  reducing the risk.

These guidelines will allow the practitioner to tailor make a specific deworming protocol for each particular patient
